The famous stuttering course

At the age of twenty-two, I managed to overcome a stutter which had basically ruined my life for eighteen years. I could not believe it, I had dreamed of achieving fluency for so long and finally I had been successful.

 

I spoke with my parents about the whole situation and they were very proud of me, they were aware of just how hard I had worked to cure the stutter. They, it has to be said, were a great support for me during what was a very difficult time.

 

My parents suggested that I should now start to help other people. Just look at how great you feel Steve and about what it is like to live life without the fear of stuttering, you could help other people from around the world to feel the same, they continued.

 

I was not sure what to say, yes I would love to help other people but it would mean that I would have to leave my current career. After a lot of thinking time, I decided to go for it. That was in 1996 and eleven years later the courses are still going strong.

 

The courses are on a one-to-one basis and are over either a three or five-day period. The location of the course is Birmingham, the one in England. People from all over the world have attended the course and I have to say that I have been amazed at the popularity of this form of stuttering therapy.

 

In 2005 I decided to produce a booklet which I call the stammering/stuttering course notes and a dvd. The people who attend the course take these materials home with them to help them to remember all of the information and techniques etc.

 

The dvd and course notes booklet(this is also available in ebook form) have also proven to be very popular and beneficial for people who are unable to attend the speech course.
